No, a semi-floating dock is required between a pile dock and a floating dock. See DIY section / How to build a dock

A foamed float is not compressible by winter ice. Should it be accidentally pierced, it will continue to float.

To calculate the amount of floats needed (Residential use only):

  • A. Multiply the dock area (length x width) by 25 (for 25 lbs buoyancy per square foot).
  • B. Divide this amount by the buoyancy capacity of the chosen float (ex. float R-450 has a capacity of 450 lbs) then round to the nearest even number.
    Example of 8′ x 12′ medium free-board dock section: 8′ x 12′ = 96 sq2 96 x 25 = 2400 lbs 2400 ÷ 450 = 5,33 floats, so, 6x the R-450 model
  • C. Make sure you have enough space to install all floats under the dock

The 427 has a rail that allows you to slip accessories such as cleats or vertical bumpers.
The 400 is 1/2 “lower (5¼”) than the 427.

Both have the same general structure and components included in the kit.

The decking, required for both models but not included, has a different cutting width between the 2.

Yes quite possible. the 2 models of platforms are compatible end to end and in parallel. However, we do not recommend doing a 90 ° (T or L formation) with a 400 and a 427.

Multiply the square footage of your structure by 25 lbs / square feet. This will give you the load that your floats have to bear. Find the buoyancy of the desired float (eg 200, 370, 450, 600 or 750 lbs) and divide the buoyancy load and you will get the number of floats needed.
